need not apply, as the halls of the Citadel are vacant aside from a few friendly NPCs. Skeletons, peons, kobolds, golems, et al. Why, in a boss rush game, am I being forced to traverse an area, full of "wait" cycles with 1hit, instant, undodgable kills that not only resets your progress but resets you to a random location in the area?! No thanks.Originally posted by DrachenLord LP:And you don't even get to choose which one you do. I ended up throwing in the towel when I got to a certain zone (The Negative Zone) because it legit felt like the designers wanted you to *not* play their game. The setting is extremely restricted compared to the large. If you mistimed that original dodge and it did the move to lock up your other two you are pretty much guaranteed dead in the next 5 seconds because you will be unable to avoid whatever comes next. Eldest Souls is a sublimation of the most famous soulslike of the contemporary videogame scene. So not only were you punished (properly) by a mistimed dodge by using us a dodge chance *and* having your face smacked in buy you also have *two* less chances to dodge now. What isn't valid is some boss moves will then lock out TWO of your dodges for a long duration *adding* on top of the punishment. That means there isn’t really any enemy fodder, complex platforming, or intricate puzzles. Getting hit by a mistimed dodge? The punishment is not only a loss of a dodge chance *and* a chunk of your life taken out. Right off the bat, Eldest Souls is a fairly straightforward boss rush. For example: you only get 3 dodges in the game and each has a pretty slow recharge time so you have to use them strategically and precisely. Another issue I have is the punishment *upon* punishment. The bosses, generally, are good at telegraphing their moves but some of the "randomized" AoE's will end up covering 80% of the viable surface to safely move on (which *doesn't* include the threat area of the boss itself) so forced hits can be frustrating. Great Kingdoms have arisen from the now forsaken temples of worship. 4h 30m ProgressThe art, sound design and music score for this game are top notch and the idea behind the gameplay mechanics are fantastic! However, some executions of those mechanics and the hitboxes of the game are. Summary: Eldest Souls is a challenging, pixel-art boss-rush game.
